Server Performance Threadage Thingy

Server Performance Threadage Thingy

Postby Rogan » Thu Dec 17, 2009 10:26 pm

We didn't manage to get the server tested today, unfortunately.

They are going to test it at some point soon, and they know when to test it, and what maps should be played for the test.

Now here's the thing. They want performance to be decent, but they say the hardware was upgraded a few weeks ago. In one of the scheduled downtimes. The new server is supposedly a lot more powerful.

So, is it still as laggy as it was last month say? Is the reg better, or is it just the same?

I honestly don't think it's as terrible as it was, I see and hear ppl shouting poor reg but I've never truly had anything that bad recently. The same ppl moan time and time again but the high scorers don't bitch about it, namely for one brave. This is only my point of view and am certain I'll be keel-hauled for it.

I can give you a good answer here, because server performance is one thing I check regulary.
I have had some issues when the server is full with choke above 50, now I am led to believe that this is what the server decides my connection and cpu can take. If that is the case I would say the server is very bad, my connection when tested at these times has been at around 19 meg, I have my cpu running at 3 ghz dropped down from the full potential of 3.4 (overclocked).
My pc should be able to handle any information sent by the server, but it does not.
Now here is the funny thing, if the server is down to 12 on 12, my ping drops, my gameplay improves, and I get no choke whatsoever.
I have played on servers where as soon as the round starts, your off, and if you dont auto buy or have configs for your usual buy stuff, you are left behind.
I will say there has been an improvement, but it lasted a couple of days and then went back to normal.
It would appear that one team has the reg, and the other team does not. However this is just observations and not based on any kind of actual proof, it just suddenly appears as such, but, there would appear to be some evidence that totally rubbishes this view, and that is certian players do not appear to be effected by any loss or choke, and witness no lag.
All I know is that with my connection and pc I should be able to recieve a hell of a lot more packages than the server wants to send me.

I have noticed a slight improvement in ping recently, maybe 5ms on a full server, but hitting people is just as patchy as ever. I get good times and bad times, sometimes changing round to round, and I don't think it's all to do with me.

Can we enable "hitboxme" ? thus we can see if we are actually getting those head shots we think we are getting....

Totally agree , finally someone agrees!

The server hasn`t improved at all, it isn`t man enough to run 32/32 player slots in my opinion.

I still get the same old one sided registration on Chateau / Milita / Port / Dust 2 (these 4 especially)

What i think is happening is the hitbox is way off (lagging behind the player / side)

Heres a poor quality example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdRpYaQA8cU

Also i get shot alot before the enemy even appear in view , leading me to believe one side or certain players are getting the server imformation before others receive it :shaking2: (I don`t know how true this is but it seems like its happening)

Theres my two pence worth! AGAIN ! :bounce:

i agree.. the server seems to select players to send reg too lol.

But some players have a regular score i.e bravehart and janitor. they do have bad days agreed but there score is normaly high.

what i see is some kinda hitbox lag like sasha siad and the packets issue the green is saying.. now i dont get 50 at any point on the server, full server and on port, jsut a little fps issue.

tbh i hadnt even noticed the server had changed at all. but the pings are a little lower than they were before when i think about it.

play the same map 3 times in a row with the same teams.... see what that does. lol.

I know I've got a problem when I get pushed away by most players running at the start of sprawn every time even though I am right at the front of the herd. I keep thinking the problem lies in my very bad B band connection (average 1.3Mbps down speed, 0.3Mbps up speed).

Also may be an interesting observation: the players are in two groups on score/Min under Multiplay stats. You either in the ~0.65 or ~0.4. Not sure this means anything.

I think a test with hitboxes would be well worth it, even if it's only for 4-5 rounds. Problem is we need a full server to fully test it.

when i'm on the server, i admit i am one of the guys who moans about reg a lot, but i know some of the admins also moan about it... i run my own 32 man DM server and honestly get better reg on it than on the custom pc server... i have to unload the whole gun to get a kill, and I don't think i'm a crap player, but there are times when you think you get a hit, but then you check the console nothing has registered. Map transitions are also very slow, any ideas why?
