Rates and Voice

Since the change to the rate from 66 to 100, all my incoming voice has been distorted.
I can kinda tell what ppl say, but it's really annoying.
I'm using an X-Fi Xtreme Music with latest drivers (updated today to try fix it).

Any ideas? Or if there's a seperate rate for voice, can voice go back to 66 while gameplay is 100?

Cant see how the two things are related. Sounds more like a coincedental thing to me. Have you tried other servers or games? Same problem?

I know that some servers have a problem receiving voice, with the same symptoms as you describe, but in those servers the problem effect everyone.

Since the problem therefore lies with you it's worth a go deleting your config.cfg file, in the cstrike/cfg folder, in case something got screwed up there. No promises but it can fix alot of different problems.

Just to clarify, the CPC server is the only one I have this problem with (afaik), and it happened immediately after the rate change - so I'm wondering if any other settings were changed at the same time that might affect audio.

I had choppy sounds after the rate change, not hearing every footstep or shot, and it turned out to be because I had fps_max 66. I turned vsync off and set fps_max 100 and that sorted my problem. make sure you have rate 30000, cl_cmdrate 100 and cl_updaterate 100 too.

I reset the settings like Art said, and sound was OK.

The moment I set cl_updaterate to 100, it fucked up again.

So I'm stuck on 66 for now.
