CS:S update in the works??

CS:S update in the works??

Postby F_A_F » Sat Jan 30, 2010 12:22 am

Checking out the story on CSN about the CS2 petition, I spotted this little gem:

CS Nation wrote:However, keep in mind that it is rumored that a huge update is in the works at Valve for Counter-Strike: Source. This update, among other things, looks to bring CS: Source on to the most recent version of Source that was introduced in Left 4 Dead 2.

They mean steamworks, they've been talking about it for 2 years.

I can see the awards now:

AFK
Didn't leave spawn
said LOL a lot
Used more than two weapons in a week.

And so on.

I knew about the achievements thing, and the possible multi-core update (been rumoured for yonks), but I didn't know about an engine change....

Not sure how well the L4D engine scales onto older machines, I hope no-one loses out because of it.

The engine change isn't really a big thing IMHO. Maybe they'll update the shaders significantly but I doubt it.

Hmmm, as long as (and i doubt they will) blury effects that you see on COD games arent added, I want to keep the simplicity but i wouldnt use the "new" shaders, with 20-32 players on d2 i get around 70fps or less anyway, no point decreasing it.

I'd make HEs do more damage (20% more). And I'd make them stun a little, so you can't walk through them and shoot someone.

I'd make flashes, and bangs, instead of flashbangs.

I'd improve the graphical indication that the bomb has been planted, number of times I don't notice that is ridiculous.

I'd introduce blood-trails, so you can find injured people.

Nothing personal but I disagree with basically all of them - HEs do a perfect amount, 20% more or even 10% would enable one nade kills which isnt balanced, with the damage as it is, well placed double nades kill, more tactical - adding another grenade would confuse things more for no reason, why would you want to make somoenes ears rings but be able to see clearly? Yes a couple of times in pub the bomb has been planted and i didn't realise, but there is a voice over which tells you, it's usually common sense to know, a large indicator, and teammates to tell you - blood trails would complicate things too much, if you manage to shoot someone you generally know where they are and if they run away, judging and anticipating corners is a big part of the game, blood would be another poor mans wall hack imo,
