Standard (fair?) bans and times.

Standard (fair?) bans and times.

Postby Rogan » Mon May 22, 2006 5:35 pm

I think it would be a lot easier for all of us if we had standard ban periods. So that someone who's just being a twat doesn't get the same treatment as racists and hackers.

I was thinking:

racist/cheat: eternal bamnation
Repeat Idiot: 3 weeks
Idiot: 1 week
Repeat irritation: 1 day
irritation: 1 hour

Thoughts? ie what's the difference between idiot and irritation?

i think idiot should be changed to troll, some1 deliberately winding people up and trying to cause offense, without being racist (because thats a perm), or equivalent offences, like deliberate teamflashing.
as far as irritation is concerned, i think that should be defined as idot, ie some1 who breaks the rules unknowingly, but then takes offence to some1 politely pointing this out, and start arguing with them.

the distinction im making here is between some1 who decides on their own/ joins with the intention to cause trouble, and some1 who is set off by another event, but was quite civil beforehand.

irritation is something smaller like people making a lot of noise/chatting to their mates about the pub last night over the mic. The kind of thing that players can deal with on their own but shouldnt have to.

as far as ban lengths are concerned i think thats fine, although the way i see a troll, repeated trolling should be permanent.

I figure that anyone annoying to the extent that they are obviously trying to piss ppl off is quite likely drunk or showing off to their m8's. Being able to come back an hour later to do it all again is probably too soon so I think the minimum ban should be for at least 1 day.

I guess quite often though players get tanked up, find the server and have a crack which unfortunately goes sour. After getting the boot they might feel to embarassed the next day to come back. Might be an idea to advertise on the server a link to the forum where any episodes can be rectified and certain bans overturned.

Bottom line is theres always plenty of warning that goes out and anyone who's just the slightest bit interested in enjoying the game with the rest at that time would heed the first warning from an admin.

I actually take this as a peer person ban, as in, we should decide the ban period at the spot on not acording to a rule.
Because i dont wanna get nobody complaining that he got ban too much according to the rulez, this in itself would be stupid. I dont know if you agree or not, but letting people know and marking some ban rulez, means they know what they can do or not, and that to me is wrong, they should´nt do it period...
What i mean if you got complains about the time and dont think an adm as been fair in a period of time, please do tell. But ( and i speak for myself) i usually just kick for some offence and only ban if people persist. But if i give a warning and the fucker replys in offensive names calling me a bitch or a fucker, i ban him and i mean at least a week. This is just an example.
Feel free to express your opinion as i am by no means the master of truth :p

This is more of a guideline to stop extended bans whe they are unwarranted. Nothing more.

Racist - Ban for life
idiot/Troll - warning once second time if no changeban for life.

I like harsh but to the point, this is how it used to be pre-source it should be brought back. I don't see why people should have to put up with cocks.

Someone team flashes on purpose warn them twice if do it again you're banned simple as, why a probational period? They always re-offend we know the drill.

As for irritating i don't think you can even ban on that what constitues irritating? 13yr old on the mic with squeeky voice? tad unfair i think. Pumping music would come under idiot/troll, and all you do is warn them then ban them.

And for all things good and holy! If people keep spraying porn sprays on the server. Do the right thing and disable sprays from being uploaded to the server. Yes takes one to ruin it for everyone else, but otherwise you make more work for yourself and perpetuate the cycle. I never understand why you must frustrate yourselfs, when it adds nothing to the gameplay but just spam really. Be no great loss if the default spray for everyone was an ID logo. Because no matter what you write in the rules people just press ok.

i assume irritation is offensive language for a bad reason (most reasons) and repeated accidental teamkill

i think one hour ban is not needed

irritation gets two warnings, one nice warning and a very clear warning

repeated irritation one day

i think idiot means, purposely tkilling teamattacking, pornsprays

people with real terrorist group and racist sprays should also be banned forever

I agree with lucy, people who are just cocks on the server should be banned for life. The last thing you want is for a guy to keep coming back after a weeks ban and just doing the same thing. Plus it may teach the other players that they cant piss about on the server because they may get banned.

By that credo you would also have been banned for life long before you ever found these forums, Elim.

I think there should always be a warning, even for really bad stuff, like porn sprays, some people just dont know our servers stance on them, tell them and at least give them a chance to stop.

Well, I'd call 'Idiot' serious disruption of gameplay (eg. TKing/TWing) or serious misbehaviour like harassing other users or porn sprays. I'd warn and then ban.

Irritation I'd say would be minor gameplay/behaviour infractions, like FBing spawn, spamming, etc. I must admit, I'd just warn, kick, and if they come back and reoffend, then go straight to a minimum 1-day ban, without bothering about a 1-hr one.

Annoying can be lots of things... the most contentious of which is not playing to objective (camping away from bombsites/hossies etc)

Is there any guidance on this? A subtle "MOVE!", "BOMB?" or similar seems to work. I don't think playing badly even consitutes a warning, and absolutely not a ban.

If someone wants to take this piss (throwing the bomb to unreachable places etc) then fair enough warn/ban but that falls under "being a twat" rather than being an idiot!

This is just my opinion, flame away!

I'd think I'd kick anyone without even a warning if I found out they'd deliberately chucked the bomb into an unreachable place. You get kicked for spoiling by hossie killing...

Hossie killing comes under the "acceptable losses" category imo. The server kicks you if you make a habit out of it anyway

As zeroniner says, there should be no punishment for playing poorly, its annoying when people wont move or bomb but everyone has off days and brainfreezes.

There needs to be a bit less emphasis on noobs as well. I know when i started playing this game i found iD very early on and a few (then) regulars were very friendly and told me not to worry about mistakes and things and just to stick with it. However, ive been on the server a few times and witnessed players who are clearly noobs recieving a lot of abuse. Maybe a more positive aproach to the noobs will keep them on our server and gain us a few more regs. I know this is mainly preaching to the converted but just thort id throw it out there.
